I better not see any Hawks fans talking about Nate is the reason JC is stinking it up right now lmao. His performance tonight was UGLY

What do you mean? It's always Nate according to the Hawks sub.

Nate made him travel, take a jumping pass turnover, hesitate on his shots and brick wide open jumper.

It's even Nate's fault for Huerter playing this good with the Kings.

I just really hope he can break out of whatever slump he's in right now because this team would be really good if he was playing like we know he can.

I was going to say the Nets are spooky if Simmons is back to himself, but the Celtics are currently fucking my team into the ground and I don't see how anyone is beating them.

Nate can’t coach. Watch JC when he leaves.

Is the new coach going to teach JC how to dribble or make his open threes?

10 points · 5 days ago

No. But the Hawks' offensive system doesn't create opportunities for anyone other than Clint Capela. Trae has to get his own shots, Dejounte always has to go one on one to get shots off. Hunter is always going one-on-one. Our offense is always high pick and roll, or 1 vs 5.

There's a reason Kevin Huerter looked like he regressed offensively last year on the Hawks and is having a career year in Mike Brown's system that he took from Golden State.

Nate McMillan would've been a great coach for the 1999 San Antonio Spurs or the early 2000s Detroit Pistons. His offensive system and his defensive system isn't suited for the talents of this roster.

You can't revamp a coaching staff mid-season, so we've bought that ticket and now we're taking the ride. But if Nate and this coaching staff isn't sent packing in the off-season, this franchise isn't serious about winning.

JC gets plenty of opportunities. He just can’t capitalize on them. He gets fed like 4 or 5 open threes a game but he’s been shooting like trash this season. He’s put in positions where he can attack closeouts but he can’t dribble so it’s not effective. He can’t consistently establish post position so it’s not like we can feed him a bunch in the post. You guy have to stop blaming Nate for every single thing that’s wrong with our team and start putting some responsibility on the players.

Only one other player in the NBA top 50 scorers shoot under 40% and thats habitual offender Terry Rozier.

To answer your question, his shot selection has always been comical. But really what's going on is he keeps hitting cold stretches in games. Last night after a hot start, he shot 1-7 in the 3rd and like 0-5 from 3. And most of the 3s were contested and ill-advised.

Something is going wrong in his head. He is actually shooting 2 more shots per game this year then he did last year even though the Hawks have more talent. Think about it.

He technically has more talent around him, but he has much worse shooting around him so it's not all that surprising that he's taking more shots this season.

What exactly has he helped transform? Our scheme feels the same as last year, no? As an amateur eye, it seems like I still see over rotations and over helping when other teams make multiple passes, usually leaving someone wide open for an uncontested 3. The thing that feels better this year is individual effort and player development. My thought was Murray has had the biggest impact on our defense by getting steals, being active, and just overall pesky. The addition of Murray plus great individual play from our bigs: CC, OO, and JC.

No it’s definitely much better than last season. Individual man defense is definitely better mainly due to having better defenders on the team but the way these guys play team defense looks so much better than it did last season. The rotations and help defense are worlds better with this group.
