Cars are dangerous.

Get a trailer plus track bike or dirt bike.

No cars to worry about. Literally same advice to runners who don’t want to get hit by cars. Except for buying the trailer.

While driving up demand for electric motorcycles probably won’t decrease inflation, I support this policy. I’ve been eyeballing a Zero, but can’t quite justify it as transportation.

Truth is, I’m still not sure that class 3 electric bicycle isn’t a better option for the urban commuter who doesn’t really go above 30 and circling for parking still takes time on a motorcycle. The no registration, no insurance, and lock up on the sidewalk is super appealing for the dense urban areas where Zeros also make the most sense.

As much fun as hitting 124 mph may be for recreational riders, being able to magically park anywhere is way more valuable for city transportation.

They are also able to disappear magically. Damn thing costs like a decent used motorcycle and can be stolen in an eyeblick. I see thousands of them in Europe, but never on bicycle parkings, especially in cities.

It really is the best commuting option, though, if one can manage the stealing issue somehow.

A $100 gps is $40 year subscription, a $150 chain lock, and knowledge of what you can lock it to are what I have. I haven’t lost a $200 bicycle yet, still have my $2k motorcycle that remains garages at night.

The $2k ebike…would it make it through dinner and a movie downtown? Harder to say. As I see others around with $30 ulocks, I feel good that mine is not the first choice.

If you’re comfortable outright saying you were recently in a serious accident and that’s where it’s coming from, I’d honestly suggest doing that. I wouldn’t have much patience for someone who just didn’t drive or had some nebulous lifelong fear of it, honestly, but if someone straight up told me they were recently in a serious accident, not yet comfortable driving, and ok with being a passenger, I’d be totally cool with that because that’s very understandable to me. Even if it was a very long road to feeling ok driving again. IMO, the context makes it more relatable which I think is useful.

If you are deciding between two potential partners, identical in every way except: one doesn’t drive never had a license will never get one. Other does not believe in giving oral sex, against his beliefs, will never do it. Who do you chose? Which is the biggest deal breaker?

[deleted]3 points · 2 months ago

So normally I’d say the no oral sex partner, because simply choosing to not drive is more seriously incompatible with my lifestyle. However, as you have framed it, I would probably pick the one who doesn’t drive, because I can’t imagine I’d be remotely compatible with a man who felt oral sex was against his beliefs. I just don’t see that belief system being something that works for me in any way, regardless of the fact of oral sex itself.

The realistic answer is probably neither.

I’ve seriously dated 4 different women that don’t drive. Normally in big cities. I also dated two women that don’t do oral sex.

Turns out I don’t miss be driven. And I sure can drive myself.

Actually, my current girlfriend barely drives, is just learning to bicycle and won’t ride on the back of a motorcycle. We worked it out.

The Perg will forever be the spot I smoked a half a cigarette for the first time, immediately followed by the spins. So many changes to the face of downtown, and yet, none of it as catastrophic as the changes I saw after the ‘89 earthquake. 🪷

It makes you realize that what makes places cool as in “keep Santa Cruz weird” is that cheap places were available for people to experiment without having everything be profit maximizing or employee cost cutting.

16k in mortgage (rent is what…$18k on that) does lend itself to a fun downtown or happy employees.

You just using a camera phone, or carrying something else?

I carry an Olympus TG5 in my front pocket of my running vest. I find trail running is essential for good nature photography. It gets you far enough from the day hikers so there aren’t people interrupting you with “Are you ok?” when you are just trying to lie in a ditch on the side of a trail photographing a slug eat a leaf.
