So, The One That Got Away is a dating show on Amazon Prime that premiered a week ago (all 10 episodes are out).https://i.redd.it/q6koph5sz2991.png
The series follows six single people searching for their soulmate. It gives them the opportunity to reconnect with their missed connections, as each participant gets to interact with people from their pasts through a device called "The Portal".https://i.redd.it/bbm382mtz2991.png
Elan Gale, yes THE Elan Gale, past Bachelor producer, is an Executive Producer of this show.https://i.redd.it/sulkpxn003991.png
Singer Betty Who (remember Becca's hometown date with Blake??) is the host of the show.https://i.redd.it/c84nuenu03991.png
So, all ten episodes are out, and I'm wondering, has anyone watched yet? What are your thoughts?
Anyone watching "Edge of Friendzone"? A super sweet dating reality show, where longtime platonic male/female couples participate.
So there's a ton of Korean dating reality shows going on right now, and I figured this would just be another one of them, nothing special.
But it's actually turning out to be super sweet and fun! 4 or 5 longtime platonic male/female couples come together for 9 days, trying to see if they become more than friends, or date someone else.
It's really endearing to watch the friends truly care for each other, banter, joke, and even talk about who would be a good fit for the friend. And of course there are those flashes of... vulnerability? crush? liking the friend? That sort of guessing game of wondering if someone doesn't want to be in the friendzone. And maybe even they themselves aren't aware of it.
So yeah again it's really fun and endearing to watch. I'd say it's in the top 2 of dating reality shows nowadays(Change Days, I am Solo, Transit Love, Eden, First Love Again, Secret Romance etc)
Only up to episode 3, hope there can be a translation and subs soon.
I really don’t mean any offense with this question. For nearly three decades, I’ve only glimpsed reality shows on other peoples’ TVs, from Survivor to the Apprentice to the Bachelor. But I’ve never sat down to watch one voluntarily….
Most of the reason I clicked play was “Wait… is that Nikki Glaser?” I never took interest in reality shows because their very concept annoyed me: asserting itself to be reality, persuading the viewer it’s real, and often coming off to me as overly self-serious/ petty/ scripted.
I’m not even done with Fboy Island ep 1 and I’ve been enamored and laughing the whole way through. I had to pause to look up whether this was a parody or actually counting itself in the vein of the typical reality show. I love its apparent self-awareness and how the contestants come off as unintentionally parodic and funny.
But I’m wondering if the show is indeed no different than the others… that it’s trying to be “real” and not radically different from its predecessors, and I was misjudging (edit: and that all dating reality shows are good like this). Or is it in fact a silly, thinly-veiled parody of other shows and knows exactly what it’s commenting on? Or…both? Thanks all.
