Posts about CreateSpace
An interesting conversation I just had with a CreateSpace customer service rep regarding Amazon's new print-on-demand service
I was having an issue with a CreateSpace royalty check, and a customer service agent called me up to address my concern and also offer me some suggestions regarding US taxes, as I am a Canadian. As the call was wrapping up she asked if I had any questions she might be able to help me with, and so I asked about Amazon's new print-on-demand service. I know CreateSpace is owned by Amazon. Is this new thing CreateSpace under a different name? Would switching from CreateSpace to Amazon be something that would see CreateSpace people eventually lose their jobs? What can she tell me about this new service?
I think she was rather pleased to be asked an unusual question. She said she's an Amazon employee working side by side with other Amazon employees. She said she could throw her headset right now and hit a guy who works for Kindle customer service. No one's job is in any danger if I ever want to make the switch, but of course Amazon is still working out some of the kinks in their print-on-demand service. One of the things in the pipeline that I might be interested in is that they will print in the country of the purchaser, which is something Amazon can do but CreateSpace cannot and will not. She didn't have a timeline for that, but she had no problem with me posting here that that was in the works. I also asked about the discounted rate for authors to buy copies through CreateSpace not being available through the Amazon service. She said it's not available yet, which does suggest we might be seeing that sometime soon too.
Anyway, I know we've discussed the new Amazon print-on-demand service a few times here. I thought you all might be interested in my conversation. I did ask specifically if it was okay to post this here. She said it was fine, and that she loves reddit. Miss? If you're reading this, thanks again for the call.
I self published a children's book for the 1st time using Create Space/Amazon! I can't make the price lower?
I made this book as a 1st birthday gift to my friend's second child. I think it'll be fun and interactive finding all the bunnies while learning rhyming words! Also I thought the 1 year old would feel connected more since his parents are in the book too. Best idea ever! I did it before with less effort for my friend's 1st child and I learned that he now selects the book I made him and interacts with it! That's awesome news for an amateur like me. Check it out and let me know what you think! It's called Ryan, Where Are The Bunnies? If I could I would make this book free but since Amazon has to make it, it says the book will have to be a minimum of $6.15. Is there a way to lower this cost at least? I would love it if everyone could get a copy! And then there's shipping costs too (about $3). I could only think of putting it on only 2 channels and create a discount code but it's only 25% off to lower the cost. Any ideas?
Here it is on Amazon if anyone cares to take a look. Ryan, where are the bunnies? https://www.amazon.com/dp/1530376815/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_CSI8wb17WC1KK

I was curious about the prices of Createspace services. Specifically Editing and Marketing. Here's the editing:
|Copyediting||A professional editor will review your manuscript and give you suggested corrections for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and correct any typos present in the text.||$160.00 up to 10,000 words and $0.016/word for 10,000+|
|Line Editing||A professional editor will review your manuscript and provide recommendations for improving the structure and flow, as well as review for consistency in grammar, spelling, and punctuation.||$210.00 up to 10,000 words and $0.021/word for 10,000+|
|Editing Package||Two rounds of editing focused on strengthening both the content and technical elements of your manuscript.||$300.00 up to 10,000 words and $0.030/word for 10,000+|
|Editing Package Plus||Two rounds will focus on strengthening the content of your manuscript, while the third round will fine-tune the technical elements such as grammar, punctuation, and spelling.||$470.00 up to 10,000 words and $0.047/word for 10,000+|
If I have a book at 60,000 words, then my cost of editing it anywhere between $960 and $2,820. Marketing is a one-time fee of $249.00 and they seem to provide a lot for that price.
Are these prices fair? If so, then I was thinking of using these services to fine-tune the book and then possibly releasing it on other channels or just stick with createspace/kdp.
I published through Createspace, and am a little confused that the Amazon pages has four other distributors offering my book. How does that work?
If my book is print-on-demand, then how do four other sellers offer the book new? Didn't expect that.
