Posts about Chevy Chase
Chevy Chase famously/infamously didn't understand the humour of the show. Has he ever talked about why he took the role?
I'm watching to a lot of the commentaries and cast interviews. And often when Chevy gets brought up a huge talking point is that he didn't understand the humour of the show; that his style of humor was not conducive to the show and that how he was funny was more old school.
And I can't help but wonder: why take the role? The humor of the pilot wasn't ladled on as thick as the rest of the show but there were still through lines. Like when Abed randomly launched into the breakfast club monologue, or the cafeteria scene where Jeff talks about being raised by TV.
Maybe he took it thinking the pilot wouldn't be picked up, maybe it was just for money, maybe he thought the humor would become more recognizable when shooting the rest of S1.
