In general, people remark that reality shows are 'fake', 'staged', et cetera. I wonder how 'fake' most viewers think that 90 Day Fiance actually is. There are a number of strategies that might be in play by the producers of 90 Day Fiance in order to heighten the drama. I'm not sure how far the producers actually go, but I am very curious how viewers perceive the 'production elements' that are being used.

Here's a list, in order from mild to severe fakery.

(I am not suggesting that the producers are using these strategies and have no evidence that they do. I'm just wondering how much deception people perceive to be in use as they watch the show.)

  1. Heighten or emphasize dramatic situations beyond their actual impact through editing, repetition, pushing buttons in 'Tell All', et cetera.

  2. Re-enact actual situations that have occurred off camera or between producer visits.

  3. Encourage specific family or friends of the couple to play villain based on their actual feelings, thus increasing the show's drama.

  4. Coach or improvise selected participants explicitly on dramatic situations - people like Juan (Paola, Russ) or Natalie (Jay, Ashley).

  5. Invent entirely new dramatic situations or confrontations, whole cloth, and have the participants including the couple act them out.

  6. Invent couples that aren't actually on the 90 day visa using actors. [I'm going to clarify this based on some comments. By 'actors' I don't mean professional actors in the actors' union, but persons who have no intention of getting married - might be amateur theatre people, or people who've never had a gig before].

As you can see from this list, there is 'fake' and there is FAKE. How far do you think the producers go? I'm being non-committal on my own feelings at the moment so as to get unbiased comments.
