Looking at these articles you'd get the impression that SLAM is a powerful weapon of some kind

War is not a team game, you should be fine with investigators calling out ALL war crimes and violations. You know, unlike authoritarian regimes that just deny anything ever happens

Pretty much every nation has committed war crimes, identifying them and calling them out is part of the process. Of course Russia commits even more, it's almost policy, but the free world is supposed to be better and improve where it isn't, even if our enemies make every effort to do the opposite.

Just can't arrest any American war criminals.

In 2002, the U.S. Congress passed the American Service-Members' Protection Act (ASPA), which contained a number of provisions, including authorization of the President to "use all means necessary and appropriate to bring about the release of any U.S. or allied personnel being detained by, on behalf of, or at the request of the International Criminal Court",[55] and also prohibitions on the United States providing military aid to countries which had ratified the treaty establishing the court.

Russia has been shelling civilian targets all war long. The Ukrainian army being elsewhere doesn't mean civilians don't get bombed, but it does mean they don't get raped, kidnapped and deported to Siberia or even just killed for fun.

Amnesty doesn't accuse Ukraine of war crimes. They can't, but what they do is push out a naive and senseless report, with very little facts that makes it seem like the Ukrainian military is negligently endangering civilians, which is still quite an insulting and harmful accusation to make.

And their examples are things like a grieving elderly woman who is sad her 50yo son died in Russian shelling, when he was feeding soldiers camped near their house. So obviously someone who was quite happy to have the soldiers around and happy to support the army, but Amnesty paints this as the army endangering civilians.

They dishonestly or naively forget that Ukraine is waging a total war for it's survival. They don't have to luxury of not fighting in civilian centers, when the enemy focuses it's attacks on them.

There is no evidence that what Ukraine did even as it is described by Amnesty International would be a war crime.

WAR CRIMES? Russia is shelling Ukrainian cities and Amnesty Fuckwits are saying Ukraine should play by the rules and not force Russia to commit war crimes by moving their military out of populated centers and into open fields, maybe even paint a big red target over their troops for better visibility.

The only thing is: Amnesty should be aware of how it's reporting is being used.

Because in Russia it will be used as a "whatabout" on Ukraine, implicitly whitewashing Russian crimes.

If it were a fair world your criticism would be right. But unfortunately it's not. Unfortunately we are in an era where the party who screams the loudest gets the right.

If we would be talking of ukrainian soldiers murdering or torturing russian prisoners, sure, it needs to be called out and dealt with.

In this case however, they are essentially calling out ukraine for fighting inside of their own cities, defending the citizens in said cities, which would not be an issue if russia simply did not attack ukraine at all! As such, it's a bullshit report and undermines all valid reports. Nobody but russians should approve of this.
