United States Army on Reddit
11B, PFC; been at my first unit for a couple months now, theres one PFC that’s a team leader and a pretty chill dude, but we’re about to clean common areas and I get up to move out the door when he points to me and says, “what are you doing?”
“What did you say?”(theres some noise in the room)
“Moving” (with emphasis, and a smile)
SPC sitting next to us: “Damn bro you gonna let him talk back to you like that?”
PFC: “Hey, dont talk back to me. Stand at parade rest.”
Me: (visible confusion)
SPC: “He’s a team leader, stand at parade rest.”
So I do, and he tells me to go clean and afterwards we’re gonna talk outside. We finish cleaning and we step outside, he proceeds to explain to me that I need to be respectful and stand at parade rest for anyone in a leadership position, even though he’s also a PFC. I tell I think there was a miscommunication as I wasnt trying to be disrespectful and was confused as to what I did wrong. He re-iterates tha I need to be squared away like he is, he’s not gonna smoke me even though he could, not trying to be a dick but you can do better, etc. Makes me stand at parade rest for the conversation.
Ive tried to be respectful with customs and courtesies the whole time I’ve been here but this frustrated me since we’re the same rank and I cant find any reg details saying that parade rest is required between two privates.
Like the title says, I am sick and tired of the daily disrespect I am being faced with on a daily. This would have never happened a few years back. I still can't believe this whole situation happened. Especially in Infantry, the true heart and soul of the army!
I had instructed one of my soldiers to do a task. And this kid had the audacity to not even aknowledge me, or stand at parade rest when talking to me... a superior in command to him.
All he did was talk back with that smirk of his. He has only been here for a couple of months, but my god he is a handful to deal with.
I tried pulling him aside to talk to him , but that was not helpful at all. He tried arguing with me on how "we are both the same rank" and why " a private needs to stand at parade rest for a private".. Because I am your F*ing teamleader and you do as instructed. There is a reason I am a team leader, because of how squared away I am. It phases me, why he can't even see that he is in the wrong.
I have no clue on how to deal with this soldier now. I am guessing the best thing I can do now is make him push. I also heard I can give him a countciling or however the f you spell it. Is that going to be effective? Do you have any other solutions to deal with such a disrespectful soldier?
I'lll have a Baja Blast to calm down!
Seriously it’s a annoying and patronizing and I am sick of seeing it. I am another officer. Nothing pisses me off than a superiority complex. Like fuck, have a soul. Know your soldiers may actually have hopes and aspirations rather than drinking in the barracks. Like they are agreeing with you because you’ve created an environment where they can’t say no or tell you suck. I literally sat and watched a major make his LTs watch star ship troopers on Friday. As soon as he said, you all can leave they did. Thirty minutes into the movie. He assumed they were friends with him and wanted to stay on a Friday.
