A tip for those with pets in the heat- use a can of tuna to make icy treats for your animals to keep them hydrated and eating, if their appetites are suppressed like mine

if you have a cat my strategy is damping her with a cool moist towel - the evaporation keeps her cool and she usually goes right to licking her fur, which hydrates her

Does it stay on for long? I could see doing this with the cat, but we tried it with the dog yesterday and she shrugged it off pretty quickly.

During last year's heat wave, I wet a towel and put it on the floor for my pup to lay on. Point a fan at the towel and they'll stay cool. Worked a treat. Hopefully this helps others

Hello! Veterinary professional here :). This is an excellent tip! You can also freeze a water bottle or two and place them under a towel or in a pillowcase to create a cooling cuddle spot as well!

I also posted this in r/Seattle and I mentioned my dog not liking a damp towel on her, and someone recommended a fridge/freezer-cold damp shirt so that she can wear it and it’s lighter weight also!
