Was refused novavax

I tried to go get novavax today but was told I couldn’t because I had one dose of moderna over a year ago. Has anyone else had this issue?

You need to say it’s your first dose. Go out of state, vaccine records are only kept at the state level

I had monderna in Jan 2021, had terrible adverse reaction. Got Novavax as a second in August and was completely fine. Had to go out of state and just didn't tell them. You gotta do what you gotta do.

Yes, quite a few people have posted here about this problem. It depends on the pharmacy and the state. My husband got a full primary series of Novavax after a full primary series of Pfizer a year before, no problems. He didn't ask or tell.

Some states have vaccine databases, and if this is the case, people have just driven or even flown across state lines. The CDC's current guidelines allow Novavax after a previous brand shot if a second shot of that brand is medically contraindicated, because of an allergic or other adverse reaction. Some people have used this "loophole."

Give us more details about your denial; maybe we can help you get the Novavax shot you want.

Oh I had no idea it was a thing since I heard people getting it and because you can mix and match the others. They just flat out told me no they wouldn’t give it to me since I had one monderna. Wouldn’t have got moderna if I had known it was an issue

Can you tell me where to find the CDC documentation on this loophole? I'm trying to find it so my wife can get NVAX (has had 1 dose of Pfizer 1year+ ago) but I can't find it.

I went to the clinic my PCP was affiliated with because I needed permission. I was allowed nova because I had an adverse reaction to 1 Pfizer a year prior.

I never had this problem. I had a dose of Pfizer over a year ago, but had a bad reaction to it. I told them all of this and gave them my vaccine card. They said that the Novavax counted as the second dose in my series and that could come back in 4-8 months for another. It was easy. I went to a Costco pharmacy in Missouri.

I’ll try that, I plan on calling the health department on Monday and telling them that.

When are you planning to get another?

Novavax is not an MRNA Vaccine. It could have less severe side effects. It’s worth a… shot.😎

I have POTS and CFS, which is the reason I want novavax, I don’t want side effects that will flare my symptoms

Yes, happened to me for same reason in TX. From my understanding there is a state level database keeping track that the pharmacy submits to for approval.

I drove to OK and had no issues when I told them it was first dose.

Did you have to show an ID to get it? Did you get asked why you were getting it in another state than the one you live in?

There is a database but it's voluntary and you have to opt in to get into it. It may depend on the pharmacy, but no one checked when my husband got his Novavax shots (he had opted into the database when he got Pfizer a year earlier).

Could you share where in OK you were able to get Novavax? I have family in Southwest/Southcentral OK and was trying to get solid info on where they could go. (I’m seeing some conflicting/ambiguous info online.)

I had that happen at Cosco and then went to a local Pharmacy in my area and they gave it to me. According to the CDC if you had one dose of either mRNA vaccine you can only get one dose of Novavax to be considered fully vaccinated. Whoever refused you didn't check the CDC guidelines.

Are you planning to get a second Novavax
