So, I got Splatoon 3 yesterday and having never played a Splatoon before I definitely came in with a bit of overconfidence. I've played team-based shooters before like Overwatch at a relatively high skill level (for a console player) so I thought I'd be fine.

Wow, I was so wrong. I went through the tutorial and jumped into some Splatfest battles and was totally overwhelmed. I was definitely mostly a drag on my team every round.

I basically struggled to prioritize. Should I focus on inking? Should I focus on killing opponents and let the ink handle itself? I also would often have enemies appear seemingly from nowhere and one-shot me. Also, do most people use Gyro control? I tried it for a bit but found it difficult to get accustomed to, but if it's considered superior I'm happy taking the time to get up to speed with it.

Also, I'm not sure how much clothes play into it and what clothes go well with what loadouts. There's just so much to the game!

Basically I had no freaking clue what I was doing, how to use my abilities well or what to be doing second to second.

Anyone know some good YouTube videos as like beginner guides or something? I feel like I'll like the game once I get past the frustrating "can't stay alive for more than 10 seconds at a time" phase of the learning curve.

Edit: So much awesome advice! The highlights so far for other new Splatoon players
