I just finished it for the 3rd time and there's not nearly enough love for this game here. This game came out in the Sega/ps1 era and had voice acting that was halfway decent. On par with every 90s anime at least. Such a great story that was never completely finished. That is a story that truly deserves it but sadly money and the gaming industry killed it and the planned conclusion. Every rpg fan owes it to themselves to play this underrated overlooked gem
With tons of old school jrpg coming back, which old game would you love to see return?
For me there are quite a few but the one i would love to see would be Terranigma (SNES). The best game for the console imo. They don't even need to change stuff. The game aged so well.
Also Treasure of Rudra would be my no.2 Really love the graphics and setting. Quite underrated.
We got a valkyrie, pokemon, xenoblade and star ocean game this year and we have final fantasy 16, final fantasy 7 remake, dragon quest 12, persona 6 (the president confirmed this a while ago) octopath traveler 2, new fire emblem, kingdom hearts 4, disgaea 7, project re fantasy (the guys behind persona 3,4 and 5) in developments AND spiritual successors to wild arms, shadow hearts and suikoden got greenlighted over kickstarter by the original developers. Oh and the legend of heroes reverie is finally translated and out next year.
feel free to tell me whenever we had jrpg games like these lined up before. this is THE golden age of jrpgs.
yes, I also played jrpgs back in the 90s (...english is my third language, im not a kid because I write like one) and the ps1 is a timeless jrpg classic - but it wasnt this good to be a jrpg fan even.
This is not a shit-post.
Since the release of FF7 Remake I've played FF 7,8,9,10,10-2,12,13,13-2,13:LL,14,15 and few spin offs. I had a lot of fun with many of them, especially 7, 9 and 12. What I often read is that many recommend e.g. FF10 as a starting point in JRPG, where I think, are you serious?
Don't get me wrong. These games might have been good to start with when they came out but, for non JRPG and FF fans I wouldn't recommend the main series as a starting point. I would recommend FF7 Remake, which was the first FF and JRPG really loved by many of my friends(I don't count FF14, it's not that classic JRPG, not even the Remake).
What I like to recommend to friends to get started and where I always get positive feedback is Dragon Quest 11. Person 5 is also a good start. For more action-oriented gameplay Nier, Xenoblade or FF7 Remake.
I think younger gamers who didn't grow up with the N64 or PS1 pay more attention to QoL in games and graphics(we are very spoiled ;) ). I know some who started FF10, 13 or 15 because of FF14 and never finished it. But they love Person 5 and DQ11.
Hence my question, would you recommend a mainline FF game as an entry point to JRPG or something else to a friend these days? How do you get new people excited about JRPG?
