About Community

Bangkok is the capital of Thailand. This sub-reddit is for foreigners living in Bangkok first and foremost as well as any Bangkok related content. It was setup like this over 14 years ago when there was no other place for foreigners to discuss living here that wasn't toxic and almost everyone Thai was using Pantip. There is now a large Thai speaking community at /r/thaithai if you would prefer more Thai language related content. I hope you enjoy the sub.

r/Bangkok Rules

1.
Links to advertising or blog spam is not allowed

Posting links to advertising or blog spam is not allowed, including youtube travel blogs. Your link should be an interesting event or news piece. Basically something we bangkok ex-pats would be interested in. If you only post your website's blog spam it will be removed. If it's obvious you're a spammer and abusing our sub you'll just be banned.

2.
Post event dates in a format everyone understands

If you're posting an event please include the date in the title and do not use numbers for the month. ("1 Feb", "Feb 1-4", "February 1" are all fine, "1/2" and "2/1" is not). If the event you're posting has no month and/or day in the title then it will be removed so please get this right. Please avoid using "today" or "this weekend" or we will delete the post afterwards to avoid confusion.

3.
Nothing about lèse-majesté and illegal activity

No posting of illegal content or discussion on illegal activities under Thai law. This includes anything that falls under lèse-majesté rules in Thailand which could get any of us in trouble. To prevent such discussion from arising we ask that you don't submit any content involving the royal family. It will get deleted and repeated offenders will be banned. We have to do this to be sure no one will be arrested so we kindly ask you respect this rule.

4.
No fake / joke transcripts / joke responses

If someone requests help with a translation do not post joke transcripts. Doing so will get your post deleted and on the list. This includes offensive or joke responses such as recommending escorts or gogo bars on serious questions.

5.
Don't be disruptive to the community

Any language or action that is disrespectful to other members; upholds racism, cissexism, transphobia, heterosexism, homophobia, misogyny, and/or classism will not be tolerated. This includes aggressive behavior will NOT be tolerated and will result in a ban.

6.
No Job Postings

No job posts are allowed, the community here does not like them. If you would like to post a job please use /r/thaijobs instead.

7.
No Begging

The main content of your post should not be asking for free stuff, money, posting money donation sites, and so on.

8.
Must be related to Bangkok

Your post must be related to Bangkok in some way.

9.
No reposting of the same content within 6 months

Reposting the same content, i.e. events, social group recruitment, advertising, etc within a 6 month period.

10.
No sex soliciting

Don't post questions related to how to pick up escorts, offering sex, massage shops that offer such services and so on. That includes posting adverts offering such services as well as advertising hooking up.
