some delusional Karen left an angry note in our mail

I just bought an old home thats ugly on the outside, we moved in 2 weeks ago and have a huge lowes truck order coming to fix it up. But I guess 2 weeks isn't fast enough for some lunatic Karen in the neighborhood because today we received a very rude and angry note in our mailbox on a blank envelope, saying they wish our home would be condemned that it's disgusting that it's an eyesore to the community and that we need to 'take care of it right now'.My house is perfectly livable, just desperately needs a paint job on the outside which we were planning on doing when the lowes order came in. But now this note makes me wanna wait longer to paint it just because it irritates this individual so much. My wife and I are mind blown that someone is soo angry with us because it's taken us 2 weeks to get started painting the outside. I can't figure out who it could be because we've tried to be friendly and have small talk with our neighbors next door to us, do you guys think maybe the mailman could've done it since it was on a blank envelope with our mail? Or just a craized drunk karen that has nothing better to do

Frame the letter as a funny conversation starter.

This and tell all the neighbors about your “welcome”. I’m sure they probably know who it is.

I would paint a big smiley face where she can see it and just leave it like that for a month. You are testing new paint colors, by the way.

I live for this level of petty. Love it.

Not what you asked but IIRC it is illegal to go into another person's mailbox. So if that is what this person did (placed the envelope in your mailbox) they are already crossing boundaries. An aggressive note is another boundary stomper (obviously). I don't know how to figure out who it is, but my guess is you'll know sooner rather than later because this person is bold. Watch for questions about upcoming work on your house and body language. Perhaps don't mention your house at all with the small talk and see who brings it up.

If you want to possibly smooth things over indirectly you could talk about how hard it is to find a contractor, they don't return calls, supply chain issues, they're often booked for months, etc. etc. to kind of prep your neighbors that it's a slow process. You could also put up a discreet "No soliciting" plaque near your doorbell.

IIRC it is illegal to go into another person's mailbox.

In fact, it's a federal offense. There's a whole law enforcement agency devoted to the U.S. postal service. Perhaps whoever did this doesn't know that. Perhaps OP should report this incident to the proper authorities and see what happens.

Its not illegal to put a letter in a mailbox dummy

Get the letter made into a huge poster and place it in your front yard

Make it a flag

When we moved into our house the front yard was really overgrown. A day or two after moving in my husband and I were out in the yard trying to get an idea of what needed to be done first and what we could do ourselves. The neighbor across the street shouted at us that it was about time we did something about the mess. Some people just suck.

Moved into a house years ago. I had been transferred but still working in my old territory so I had about a four hour commute each day (still can’t believe I did that). I was working 6 days as well. My neighbor directly across the street was retired. Every time he caught me pulling into the driveway he would tell me I needed to “keep up on my lawn” and ”there is a way we do thing in this neighborhood.” I explained to him about my job and how I would be transferred soon. I stupidly thought he would be understanding. It’s not like my lawn was a field. I cut it every week. He finally made a comment about me being lazy. I was really to the point that I was going to blast him but I was new and didn't want to make enemies. My transfer came through a few weeks later and I went back to normal hours. I went after the lawn with a vengeance. I replanted all the beds, installed lighting and landscaping pavers. Fertilized the lawn and filled in all the bare spots. It looked fantastic. A few weeks later I saw him staring at my yard. I walked out and glared at him. He walked back in his house. He never spoke to me again.

When I bought my house it was easily in top 3 of worst looking. It had issues that needed addressed first in doors. Heat/Cooling, electrical, plumbing and basement water proofing. It took about 3 years before I got to the outside.

Had one snide bitch next door who always made comments. In fact I finally snapped one day and gave her hell and her husband who wasn't too bad came running onto his porch. I said Tom, your fat ass comes off that porch and I'm beating it. We never talked again and they moved a few months later later.

My friend won a contest for $5000 at Christmas shopping spree at local mall. I took her and she wanted to look at snow blower at Sears. We walk in and both my old neighbors were there.

The woman says she drove past and seen all the work I had done. New roof, front and back porch, new sidewalks and driveway (drive was gravel), new siding and windows. Some bushes and grass. She said, If they had known that they would have stayed.

I said yes that is why I waited then walked away. That was 15 or more years ago. Still feels great.

Wow!!! They sound like absolutely miserable people.

Legit, it's your house... Therefore, they had no reason to make it their business. I'm glad they moved away from you, I would not be able to put up with that shit!

This has happened to me. Because Karen doesn't like my window coverings. TWO notes in my mailbox and she's stopped when I was checking my mail to cuss me out. After the first note I didn't do anything but after the second I filed a police report for harassment AND let my local post office know that someone has been tampering with my mail. No one is allowed in your mailbox except you and your mail carrier. It is a federal crime to leave non postage notes in someone's mailbox. I also put Christmas lights up in July and several no trespassing and "smile, you're on camera" signs. Thought my window coverings were bad? Hope Karen enjoys my house now.

Chuck the letter and don't think twice about it. Some people have no lives.

do you guys think maybe the mailman could've done it since it was on a blank envelope with our mail?

If your mailbox has a lock on it, maybe. That could be considered tampering with the post, though. A letter carrier would know that and most postal employees aren't going to be that eager to be charged with a felony.

Also, your postal carrier doesn't give a rat's ass what one house on their route looks like. It's just their job to deliver your mail.

Geez you just moved in two weeks ago. I’m sure you haven’t even got finished unpacking and settling in and all that stuff. what did they expect you to have it painted before you moved in. they know you just bought it and or moved it. Personally I would wait and take my sweet time and put like a few different colors on the outside like color swatches like you’re testing out colors for a couple weeks and see what you like. Lol

not really because you probably already have your color picked out but that’s what I would do. anything to fucking prolong their aggravation. And yes it is illegal to put something in somebody’s mailbox that has not gone through the postal system. Do y’all have that next-door app in your neighborhood if so I would take a photo of the letter and say who put this in my mailbox… it is illegal and if they want to come and help you paint once you decide on the color they are more than welcome too !

I feel like you need a "don't mind the mess" or "under construction" sign out front. But seriously I wouldn't stress over it. If your immediate neighbors seem friendly enough and they haven't complained to you it could be some passerby that thought to be an ass that day.

Paint the house in rainbow colours.
